ROCK ANCHORS-STATE OF THE ART: PART 2: CONSTRUCTION: GROUTS AND GROUTING
This article gives a comprehensive account of the cement grouts and grouting methods that are used to fix and protect rock anchors; the authors include a comprehensive bibliography. After dealing with the choice of cement and the effect of impurities in the water used, they compare the water/cement ratios that are recommended throughout the world and graphs illustrate the effect of this ratio on grout properties (compressive strength, resistance to flow and bleed capacity) and on uniaxial compressive strength at different ages for ordinary and rapid hardening cements. Admixtures are next discussed and a table outlines the optimum dosage and affect of those used as accelerators, retarders, fluidifiers, expanders and for anti-bleed purposes. After dealing with strength requirements the article sets out a recommended mixing procedure and continues by discussing grouting methods (both two-stage and single-stage) and grouting pressures in relation to the rock involved. A comprehensive section deals with quality control including the measurement of grout properties. The mechanisms of corrosion are next described (pitting, dissolution and fragilization under tension) and A classification of ground waters is given in relation to their aggressiveness. The article concludes with an account of the methods of protection that are used. /TRRL/
