RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A STANDARD CREEP TEST
The paper describes a test recommended by the creep working party of the concrete society to rectify the omission from BS 1881 of a test for elastic modulus and shrinkage. The test is designed for specially prepared specimens and those made from site samples. Test conditions are explained, the number and size of specimen required are given. The concrete should be mass-cured and stored after sealing by a method limiting the moisture loss during the test to less than 0.5 per cent of the weight of the mixing water. The temperature of storage should be 20 + or - 2 degrees C. Control specimens must be provided to measure concomitant shrinkage and strength in compression at the time of loading. The age at loading should be 28 days or seven days for site concrete; strains should be recorded for a period of 60 days followed by a similar recovery period. No attempt is made to define the apparatus used, provided it is capable of meeting the conditions of load and measurement; examples of suitable methods are given. /TRRL/
