NEW APPROACH TO VEHICLE INSTRUMENTATION
The article discusses future developments in the design of vehicle instrument displays in which the conventional circular instrument cluster is likely to be replaced by an electronic, solid-state, digital display system. Such displays would offer larger, more easy to read information compared with mechanical units and would require no moving parts for a maintenance-free life. Of the many types of digital or analog displays available, the DC electroluminescent and liquid crystal displays are thought to have the most potential. Examples of proposed solid-state display panels are shown which can also incorporate a head-up display. /TRRL/
