AN ELECTRONIC SYSTEM FOR INDIVIDUAL AND ACTIVE ROUTE GUIDANCE ON MOTORWAYS
Highway construction cannot keep pace with the rapid increasing of the traffic volume in most industrialised countries. The paper describes a system which helps every driver to find his specific destination. Every car has A transmitter sending a code continously depending on the driver's destination. If the vehicle reaches a decision point of the highway, the code is received by a loop antenna buried in the road's surface. One of the three possible instructions (right, left, straight ahead) is read out from a memory unit situated nearby the road and is sent back to the vehicle. The instructions are prestored in this unit for all destinations in a fairly large area. (e.g. The whole country) and depend on the normal traffic situation. If the traffic situation changes, the memory can be set up partially by a traffic computer control centre using available channels. /TRRL/
