QUEUE CONTROL BY TRAFFIC CONTROL

FILEBEHEERSING DOOR VERKEERSBEHEERSING

Conduction of the mobility to control queues was an important part of the Second Structure Scheme Traffic and Transport (SVV) 1991 of the Dutch national government. Five years later it should be established that the problems of traffic congestion, in particular in peak hours, are still persistent. Traffic control can give substantial aid in decreasing queues. The government will intensivate their traffic control policy and will finance it untill the year 2000 with 1.6 milliard Dutch guilders. This report presents the background information on the policy for traffic control in the near future, with amongst others their planning for the main road network with signalization, ramp metering, monitoring, driver information, and prohibition for lorries to overtake.
