DESIGN FOR RECTANGULAR REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS SUBJECTED TO TORSIONAL STRESSES
This paper provides design charts for typical rectangular reinforced concrete members subjected to combined torsion and shear, as outlined in Chapter 11 of ACI 318-71. It gives the designer an aid in selecting a cross section with required longitudinal reinforcements and stirrups to resist the ultimate design torque and shear. The charts are provided for four rectangular beams of 8 x 12 in., 10 x 15 in., 12 x 18 in., and 14 x 21 in. Yield strengths of reinforcement are 40,000 and 60,000 psi, while 3,000 and 4,000 psi concrete strengths are considered. The illustrated design example has been worked out to show the use of charts. /Author/
