NEW TYRE CONCEPT USES COMPRESSION IN TREAD
This new concept in tires which is manufactured about 3 percent oversize compared with the tire casing, followed by compression in a special band in order to attach it to the casing, has life twice as long as that of conventional tires, with a greatly improved puncture resistance and wet-road stopping power. The tread is manufactured with no joint or splice and precured. It is backed by a layer of natural rubber for good bonding to the carcass, and a protective cover. The composition of the tread itself is the same as that of conventional treads: a 50/50 blend of natural and synthetic rubber is used. This process has mainly been used to make retreads for trucks and bus tires. Excellent mileage results were obtained, and destructive tests indicated excellent rehability. There is a possibility that fuel consumption may be slightly lower with this tire which runs smoother and absorbs less energy than ordinary tires. It is thought that this process is applicable to the manufacture of new tires.
