A STATUS REPORT ON FIBER REINFORCED CONCRETES
Steel fiber, glass fiber and polyroylene fiber reinforced concrete are considered, bridge deck, highway, street and airfield pavement overlays are discussed, use of fibers in concrete repair is described, and the current and future status of fiber reinforced concrete is briefly reviewed. Cast-in-place concrete applications are summarized in a table. Six of 8 fiber reinforced concrete bridge deck surfacing projects had overlay thickness ranging from 2 to 5 inches. Two-course bonded construction has been employed on two bridges in Virginia, and their performance will be compared with that of conventional decks. Highway overlays in Michigan, rehabilitation of parking areas, new pavement construction (in Ohio), repair of deteriorated concrete slabs, culverts and other members, and the construction of warehouse and factory floors are briefly reviewed. Factors involving preparation and properties that need to be improved upon are listed.
