STATE TESTS SHOW ARROW BOARDS ARE EFFECTIVE LANE "DECONGESTERS"
Lighted arrow board trucks are definite aids in controlling high-volume traffic around detours and lane restrictions caused by road construction. The results are discussed of tests conducted during a serious traffic congestion at a bridge construction site, where 2 truck-mounted arrow boards were used at the northbound merge point. Recording traffic counters (4) measured the displacement of merging vehicles. The counters were set so simultaneous count totals could be obtained. Counters were located at the same distances from the merge point for the second phase of the detour when vehicles were merged to the right. A comparison of all lane counts with and without arrow board trucks would show the effect, if any, of these arrow in moving traffic over to the through lane. The results amply indicate the effectivity of the arrow board trucks.
