PROMETHEUS. PHASE 3: TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION; CED3; COLLISION AVOIDANCE BY COMPUTER VISION. FINAL REPORT
PROMETHEUS. PHASE 3: VERKEHRSZEICHENERKENNUNG; CED3; KOLLISIONVERMEIDUNG DURCH RECHNERSEHEN. ABSCHLUSSBERICHT
Traffic sign recognition by color image evaluation has been applied for detection, localization and classification of traffic signs from cars driven within real time. Pattern recognition for computer vision is based on the hierarchical color segmentation system CSC (color structure code). Using a 1-chip color camera on a TIP computer with only 3 TPM-MPC processors, traffic signs are recognized within 300 msec. The developed system has been integrated into the autonomous vehicle VITA 2 and has been successfully tested on German and French expressways.
