GASOLINE DEMAND BY OWNER CHARACTERISTICS
This report is a preliminary analysis of gasoline demand in New York State by automobile-owner chanrcteristics. It establishes a base-year (1971) average weekly gasoline demand for male and female automobile owners ages 16 to 85. This demand is based on vehicle type, percentage distribution in the automobile mix, annual mileage, and fuel economy. The report examines the impact of a 10-gal (38-liter) per-vehicle rationing policy, its effects on owner demand, and possible reductions in fuel consumption that can be expected by increasing the percentage of smaller cars in the automobile mix.
