REUSE OF ROAD-BED MATERIALS FOR PAVING
A review of published information describing recycling of paving materials indicates that although several experimental jobs have been performed, only a few of these projects have been nationally published. The more important projects are summarized (in a table) and discussed with particular emphasis on Texas projects. Unstabilized base courses and stabilized base courses have been reused from paving. Three examples are described of the recycling of portland cement concrete for use as unstabilized and stabilized bases as well as asphalt concrete surface sourses. Operations are also described where asphalt concrete mixtures have been removed from roadway site, centrally heated, remixed and replaced. The recycling of pavement rubble represents an alternative to importing natural aggregates from other localities.
