THE PREDICTION OF PLATOON DISPERSION BASED ON RECTANGULAR DISTRIBUTION OF JOURNEY TIME
It is often important to predict the dispersion of a platoon of vehicles leaving a traffic signal, particularly for use in area traffic control. Since accuracy of journey time distribution is not a crucial factor in predicting platoon dispersion, the author introduces the formula based on rectangular distribution. The results of comparisons with observed dispersion in Cracow indicate that though all four methods used are satisfactory in platoon prediction the rectangular and geometric distributions, which require knowledge of only one parameter, are to be preferred. The rectangular is slightly better for journey time prediction and slightly quicker in computation. (A) /TRRL/
