TIME-DEPENDENT BEHAVIOUR OF CONCRETE CONTAINING A PLASTICISER
The purpose of this investigation was to compare the properties of ordinary portland cement concretes with and without the admixture cormix p2. This is a liquid plasticiser based on a hydroxycarboxylic acid derivative, and is a water-reducing agent with moderate set-retarding properties conforming to type D materials of the ASTM designation C494-71. It is recommended by the manufacturers for use in high-quality concrete where requirements of density, durability and high strength can be achieved with adequate workability. Three basic mixes were used in the investigation, and experimental data are presented on strength, creep, creep recovery, shrinkage/swelling and modulus of elasticity. The authors conclude that the use of cormix p2 admixture is generally beneficial for use in wet environments. But that in drying environments, where creep is increased due to a concurrent shrinkage of concrete, hydroxylated carboxylic acid derivative admixtures have been reported to increase creep for both normal and lightweight concretes. Further investigation is therefore recommended before use in drying environments. /TRRL/
