NEW CONCEPTS CONCERNING THE STATICS OF TUNNELS
NUOVI CONCETTI SULLA STATICA DELLE GALLERIE
The basic factors to be considered in tunnel drilling are: the natural stress fields of the rock prior to excavation; the physical properties of the rock; the construction method to be used; and the type of supporting structures. From the statics point of view the problem is defined as one of three dimensional tensions and deformations at the attaching face, which are statically indeterminate. The time factor, in terms of the viscous behaviour of the rock is of great importance during and after construction. A rheologic model is developed for calculating the relationship between stress and speed of deformation at the drilling face. /TRRL/
