LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATES
LAETTBALLAST
This article describes different types of lightweight aggregates, their origin and properties, fields of applications and production figures in Sweden. Lightweight aggregates can be divided into five different types: 1. Natural minerals; 2. Natural minerals which have been transformed under the action of heat; 3. Waste products originating from industrial processes; 4. Post-treated waste products; 5. Organic materials. Only aggregates of the second type are produced in Sweden. They are mostly used for insulation purposes but there is a trend towards an increasing use of structural lightweight aggregate concrete. /TRRL/
