FACTORS INFLUENCING THE SKIDDING RESISTANCE OF TIRES ON WET ROAD SURFACES

The skidding resistance between the tyre and the road surface is studied from the point of view of the properties of vehicle and tyre in connection with road surface properties. The state of the art of research done at the delft university of technology on tyres of cars and commercial vehicles, with respect to factors of influence such as profile depth, driving speed etc., is presented. It is shown that the watching of profile depth and improvement of tyre characteristics has no sense unless attention is paid to the quality of the road surface. /TRRL/
