PRACTICAL TESTS FOR MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF HOT MIX ASPHALT
A major project under the title of "BITUTEST" involving strong collaboration between material suppliers, contractors, road authorities and the University of Nottingham is developing simple practical tests to measure the key mechanical properties of bituminous mixtures. The central tool being used by all parties involved in the project is the Nottingham Asphalt Tester, which is a low cost facility that can be used to measure a variety of mechanical properties including stiffness, fatigue strength and resistance to permanent deformation. Test procedures are also being developed to deal with mixture durability; specifically resistance to ageing and moisture damage. (A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 873950.
