NEW DRAIN SYSTEM RESULTS IN QUICKER SOIL STABILIZATION PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION
NYTT MARKDRAENERINGSSYSTEM FOER SNABBARE JORDSTABILISERING VID HYGGNATION
The geodrain system is described and results obtained from a few investigations are presented. Geodrains consist of rib profiled plastic strips enclosed by a wet-strength paper envelope. The drains are protected during ground placement by steel covers which are then removed for re-use. Tests have been made on soft post-glacial clay in 9-15 M thick layers on the top of stratified glacial clay. Comparison has been made with 0 180 mm sand drains with various spacings. The main advantages with the geodrains are the almost negligible soil disturbances and easier handling as well as the need for lighter driving equipment only. /TRRL/
