COMPONENTS OF A COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAM FOR PAINTING CONTRACTORS

The protection of workers and the general public from the health and safety hazards on painting sites should be a primary concern of contractors. Contractors should follow regulatory guidelines and complete projects within a reasonable time and within budget. To accomplish these goals, contractors must plan and manage health and safety practices during painting operations just as they must plan and manage production on the job site. This article gives painting contractors an overview of the fundamental approach to planning and managing worker protection--a comprehensive health and safety program. The article explains the significance of the program, outlines job site hazards and standards commonly violated on job sites, and details specific hazards that contractors should consider when preparing the comprehensive health and safety program. The article also identifies several additional state and federal regulatory requirements for managing worker protection.
