OPTIMAL IRRIGATION CANAL SECTIONS. TECHNICAL NOTE
The minimum area, or the maximum velocity cross section, is generally adopted for lined irrigation canals. This section is economically most efficient due to the limited amount of earthwork and lining surface involved. Equations exist for various practical sections between the design variables. Since the design variables themselves are unknown, such relationships cannot be applied directly. This investigation presents explicit equations for the design variables of various irrigation canal sections. These equations should be useful to engineers engaged in the design of lined canals.
