A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEMS AT A NETWORK OF SIGNALISED INTERSECTIONS
The paper describes a computer program for the simulation of vehicle movements in a street network. A validity check with two networks under fixed-cycle control shows that the average journey time is simulated to within 4 per cent. Use of the program to simulate vehicle-actuated signals indicates that at low traffic flows, the unlinked v-a system is the most efficient, whilst at high traffic flows, the fixed-cycle system is the best, and not the linked v-a systems.
