MAIN REQUIREMENTS FOR A SYSTEM OF VEHICLE WEIGHING
HUVUDKRAVEN PAA SYSTEM FOER FORDONSVAEGNING
A brief description is given of weighing equipment available today and probable future development. Systems for determination of load weights are: stationary or mobile weigh-bridges, load indicators attached to loading devices or lorries. Measuring accuracy varies from less than 1% up to about 10%. Weigh-bridges represent the lower limit which covers all practical demands. For load indicators an acceptable accuracy would be 5-7 %. Better accuracy would lead to costs exceeding 3 - 5% of the vehicle cost which is considered to be the maximum that users are prepared to pay. The disadvantage with stationary weigh-bridges is that vehicles cannot be weighed during the loading procedure. This is also true to some extent for the mobile plants which are fairly sensitive to moisture and mechanical damage as well. Any further development in the near future of this type of weighing equipment is not to be expected. Load indicators are still being further developed; especially A method using a wire strain gauge attached to wheel axles is considered to be promising. References to more detailed studies are given. /TRRL/
