CASE STUDIES OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS OF BY-PASSES
This paper reports on two surveys carried out to examine the environmental effects of by-passes. The first one was at Alton, a town in Hampshire with a population of approximately 10,000; the second is concerned with by-passes to Keswick and to Cockermouth in the Lake District. Two tables show: (1) the effects of traffic on "high street" residents and (2) opinions of changes in pollutants between 1971 and 1972. For the covering abstract of the symposium, see IRRD abstract no. 217083. /TRRL/
