CONCRETE CONNECTION FOR BIRMINGHAM AND EXETER
This article briefly describes the paving of the 18.72 km Chelston-Willard section of the M5 motorway. The full width of the 11.2M wide carriageway is being concreted in one pass using a conventional rail-mounted paving train which basically consists of German abg equipment, substantially modified by the contractor. The article describes this equipment which consists of a spreader unit, a modified vogele compactor for placing bars used in the transverse joints, two compactor units, an ABG FVS 460 vibrating blade cutter making grooves for the joints, and finally an abg nv diagonal finisher. /TRRL/
