ENERGY CONSERVATION : STREET LIGHTING. A REPORT TO THE PLANNING AND HIGHWAYS COMMITTEE OF THE LONDON BOROUGH OF HACKNEY

This report is an objective assessment of the situation in a London borough, using factors not available to manufacturers; it details alternative light sources and proposals for conserving energy and reducing annual energy costs. The present street lighting equipment in the borough is described together with the financial considerations which led to the proposals outlined. The recommendations put forward were to change all mbf metropolitan road street lighting and all mbf borough main street lighting in the borough to low pressure sodium, thus effecting a 15.4% and 13.9% saving in energy and reducing annual electricity charges by found18,652 and found17,426 respectively. Tabulated data on light source comparison of low pressure sodium and high pressure sodium with existing mbf (h.p. Mercury) lamps are appended. /TRRL/
