THE EFFECT OF ACTIVITY TYPOLOGY ON HOUSEHOLD TRAVEL SURVEY RESPONSE RATES
This summary, which appears in a compendium of conference papers, briefly explains the use of three different activity typologies in three separate travel surveys. Investigators are concerned with the effect of the typologies on response rates. Activity diaries replace the traditional travel diaries, which frequently exclude non-work travel because it is often forgotten by respondents. The three activity typologies vary in degree of detail and number of days surveyed. The results should help clarify for transportation planners the data most important for planning and modeling purposes.
