DEPLOYMENT OF ITS IN THE U.S.
The road to deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) has not always been smooth. There are obstacles, some of them formidable. The author, a state transportation chief with solid, first-hand experience with ITS, says the complexity of integrating such technologies pales in comparison to the task of coordinating among competing companies, among different modes and among multiple public agencies. Four strategies are offered as essential to successful deployment in the critical years ahead.
