SEMI-INTEGRAL BRIDGES: A CONCEPT WHOSE TIME HAS COME?

The State of Ohio has conceived and is developing a semi-integral bridge concept that has enabled it to extend the application range of jointless bridge decks, even to bridges not normally considered for this type of construction. Although this concept has a wide application range, it possesses a number of unusual characteristics that must be recognized and be provided for if semi-integral bridges are to satisfy all functional requirements. A discussion of these characteristics is the primary focus of this paper. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 873218.
