COMMUNICATING EFFECTIVELY WITH THE PUBLIC

Transportation agencies should develop a rapport with the public to enhance communications about transportation projects and problems with community residents. This article identifies many effective communications strategies, including: citizen brochures, radio talk show interviews, regular newspaper columns, block parties, project newsletters, presentations to civic and social groups, community workshops, and ceremonial grand openings. Each strategy is discussed in detail.
