HIGH TECH SOLUTIONS FOR IMPROVED MOBILITY IN DOWNTOWN SAN JOSE
With an influx of new workers in the downtown area, combined with new cultural and entertainment opportunities, the downtown area of San Jose is undergoing an era of renaissance. To keep pace with these developments, it is necessary to provide a supportive infrastructure which creates a user-friendly environment in the downtown area. This need was reinforced based on the results of several surveys conducted throughout the downtown area. Two of the most critical areas that need to be addressed in creating this environment are improvements in transportation and information systems. Implementation of all projects will be pursued over the next five years, with top priority given to the development of the information kiosk system. Development of routes and financing for the shuttle system begins late in 1995.
