SPECIFICATION FOR CAST IN PLACE CONCRETE DIAPHRAGM WALLING
Specifications are presented for design, materials, and construction, notes are given for guidance, and supplementary clauses for incorporation in contracts for diaphragm walling are spelled out. The specification refers only to cast-in-place concrete diaphragm walls, with or without steel reinforcement, constructed under bentonite suspension. Reference is also made to workmanship and the performance requirements of the finished structure. It is emphasized that attention must be given to recording groundwater details, especially artesian conditions allowing sufficient time for observations. Laboratory tests should include the determination of shear strength parameters and index properties of cohesive and non-cohesive soils. For walls to be founded in rock, the nature of the desired founding stratum and the extent of any decomposed rock to be passed strough should be carefully defined since these factors determine the amount of chiselling or other special methods of excavation required.
