ANALYSIS OF PRESSUREMETER IN STRAIN-SOFTENING SOIL
Basic concepts of the theories of elasticity and platicity are reviewed, and classical plasticity formulation is extended to include the analysis of strain-softening behavior. A general effective stress-strain-strength model, based on the work by Roscoe, et al. is described, but attention isfocussed on the undrained analysis which constitutes a special part of the more general model. Single mathematical expressions for the yield functions are suggested such that closed-form solutions for stresses, strains and excess pore-water pressures around the pressuremeter may be determined. Detailed comparisons are made between the results from strain-hardening and strain- softening behavior. The proposed theory makes it possible to backfigure basic soil stress-strain and strength properties from strain-controlled pressuremeter tests. Governing equations are presented and the numerical illustrated. The general effective stress-strain-strength model is detailed, and the analysis of excess pore pressures around the pressuremeter is discussed.
