THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ACCESSIBILITY AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT EXPLORED FOR THE REGION OF AMERSFOORT
STRUCTURERENDE WERKING INFRASTRUCTUUR, DE RELATIE TUSSEN BEREIKBAARHEID EN REGIONAAL ECONOMISCHE ONTWIKKELING VERKEND VOOR DE REGIO AMERSFOORT
A case study on the relationship between infrastructure and economic development had been carried out as part of the research project 'economic and spatial effects of infrastructure'. In the study the relationship between infrastructure, accessibility, economic performance and development of employment is explored for the Amersfoort region. Results are: (1) The relationship between infrastructure and economic development at a regional level seems to be found in the location choice behaviour of companies. No evidence was found for a better economic performance of companies near motorways in general; (2) The so-called motorway sensitive activities perform better near motorway exits; and (3) advanced accessibility measures seem to relate stronger with economic performance.
