TESTING OF "DIRECT-IMPORTED" CARS DURING 1991-1992
PROVNING AV "DIREKTIMPORTERADE" BILAR UNDER 1991-1992
The aim of this report is to show the testing account of a small group of cars. The cars have been imported to Sweden by persons who intended to keep the car for their own use. Important here is how the exhaust fume regulations are put into practice. The report makes a compilation of the test results obtained from testing direct-imported cars. The testing was executed during 1991 and 1992. 108 cars have gone through 153 tests. The reason why the tests have been done is to verify whether the exhaust emission control is in working order in accordance to paragraph 3.7.2 b in the A 40 regulations. The compilation was executed to evaluate whether the policy which ASB (the Swedish Motor Vehicle Inspection Co) applied is acceptable. Some of the test results are as follows: (1) pollution from direct imported catalyst cars is lower than from cars without catalytic exhaust emission control; (2) the average for carbon monoxide (CO) oversteps the limit for carbon monoxide with 100%; and (3) cars produced in Germany are not accepted in 44% of the tests, while only 15% of the cars produced in USA failed.
