WIND INDUCED OSCILLATIONS OF BRIDGE MEMEBERS
This report gives two examples of damage to bridges (one being suspended by means of inclined tubes, the other by means of h-shaped vertical suspension rods). Statistical results of tests conducted on 141 arch bridges with a stiffened framework are given together with results of wind tunnel tests on three h cross-section models, during which aerostatic and aerodynamic forces were studied together with the stroughal coefficient and the aeroelastic stability of the models. It is pointed out that a h-cross-section structure is subject to its own oscillations due to self excitation as well as to wind-induced oscillations. /TRRL/
