AXLE LOAD RESTRICTIONS - INTERNATIONAL ADMINISTRATION AND EVALUATION

In 1992 axle load restrictions were applied to 66% of the Norwegian highway network. The amount of axle load restrictions on the Principle Highway network was 36%. Altogether 78% of the County road network was affected by axle load restrictions. This report describes the administration of spring thaw restrictions on roads in 8 countries: Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the USA. The main purpose of this report is to present the various systems used to implement the axle load restrictions and any other parameters used to administer these restrictions. (A)
