TARA HELPS COUNTIES TO IMPROVE ROADS AND SAVE MONEY
A highways information system called tara has been developed to correlate information, analyse traffic movements and accident statistics. When fully developed it will consist of a central two-dimensional network modelling system and a series of sub systems referenced to it. Some existing systems such as March, coba and chart can be incorporated. The tara system is such that a basic link and mode network can be supplemented with digital string information. Information which may be processed include details of road traffic, accidents, and road characteristics. The performance and requirements of street furniture, also details of property and planning applications may be analysed. The tara group is developing software to use existing traffic counts and national trends to predict traffic flows. Accident scanning facilities are to be provided, which will include the evaluation of accident rates for particular accident types, the scanning of roads for points where the accident rate, growth or type exceed the norm. A plotting program has been developed enabling plots to be made of any part of the network to any scale or size. /TRRL/
