SAFETY VALUES AND SAFE PRACTICES AMONG COLLEGE STUDENTS
During the fall of 1993, a total of 1,126 students from eight Midwestern universities completed a questionnaire composed of items related to safe practices and safety values. This study explored the effects of gender, class standing, and geographic region on student safe practices and safety values. Results indicate that females are more safety conscious than males, which has been confirmed in earlier research. Also, class standing significantly affected the safety values of the students, but had no significant effect on their safe practices. Geographic region had no impact on either the safe practices or the safety values of the students. The best predictor of a student's safe practices was his safety values, in fact, more so than the other three factors combined.
