THE ROLE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES IN TRAFFIC ENGINEERING
DE ROL VAN DE MENSSETENSCHAPPEN IN DE VERKEERSKINDE
Knowing the limits of human capacity and recognizing the required human actions are quantities in the field of technical knowledge, and not in the field of technical ability. They are subject to research and the study of the sciences devoted to human behaviour, the so-called gamma sciences. The traffic engineer occupies himself with planning, control and maintenance of the physical infrastructure of traffic. He bases his designs on scientifically founded knowledge of social and traffic problems, which should be provided by those who study human behaviour. /TRRL/
