PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FIRES IN TUNNELS, BORAS, SWEDEN, OCTOBER 1994

These proceedings present details of the most recent research on in tunnels, in particular the first results from the EUREKA EU499 tunnel fire research project. Fire loads included trains, trucks cars, wood chips and heptane fires. Topics covered include: (a) measuring techniques; (b) heat release rates; (c) heavy goods veh fires; (d) smoke production; (e) the smoke-free floor zone; and ( the use of places of safety. Tunnel fire experiments worldwide a reported including: (a) fires in partially blocked tunnels; (b) t in the Zwenberg and Ofenegg tunnels; (c) the West Virginia Memori Tunnel Fire Test Programme; (d) Finnish tunnel fire tests; and (e small scale road tanker fire test in Sweden. Some fire safety sy in operation are then described including: (a) Central Artery/Tun Project in Boston, USA; (b) the Channel Tunnel; (c) the Stockholm Road Tunnel; and (d) the Oresund Tunnel.
