SOFTWARE AND TECHNICAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SECURING SAFETY CONDITIONS OF HEALTH, LABOUR AND HABITATION OF FISHING VESSELS DURING SHIP MOTION AND GREEN WATER SHIPPING

This paper is concerned with the analysis of design solutions. The technical recommendations and software described allow the estimation of habitation and labour conditions in different working places in the ship during the design stage. Results are presented of a long term research program on the effect of ship motion in a seaway upon crew injury risk. The investigations were completed by the issue of official technical recommendations intended for use at different stages of design and operation of fishing vessels. Over the last two years the effectiveness of the recommendations were verified and confirmed aboard several fishing vessels from small- sized trawlers to large refrigerated ships with anti-rolling tanks. For the acceptance of labour conditions onboard the vessel being designed, two criteria were suggested. The first is a characteristic acceleration component in a given point on the deck or in accommodation. This component acts parallel to the deck and can cause a crew member to slide or fall with great risk of injury. The second criterion is full modules of acceleration which effect the crew member (so called overloading) and causes tiredness and delayed reaction to the danger. The admissible values (norms for these criteria) are different for different kinds of labour aboard the vessels. The recommendations give some simple warnings and measures against the danger of deck flooding due to green water shipping. Software for computer-aided use of these technical recommendations is also described in the paper. The software can be divided into two parts; the first part is intended for calculation of ship motion in irregular seas and the second part provides re-calculation of the ship motion to a given point of the ship, corresponding to working place location. This allows the computation of values in the above mentioned criteria.
