SOUND FROM TURBULENT BOUNDARY LAYER EXCITED PANELS
The acoustic power radiated by thin flexible panels excited by turbulent boundary layer pressure fluctuations is estimated using a modal analysis, light fluid loading effects being included. Previous estimates of the modal radiation coefficients are improved, an extension being made to include the transition region where the acoustic wave length is comparable with the panel dimensions. The assumption of equipartition of the modal energies in a frequency band is used to account for the fluid loading effects. Predictions based on this assumption and also made by neglecting fluid loading are compared with experimental results obtained in air. ( Author )
