DRIVER EDUCATION ASSESSMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAMS
The Institute of Rehabilitative Medicine has geared itself to meet the needs of the mobility of the physically handicapped person in six separate areas; Transfer of patient and chair into and out of the car; Assessing the disability to the extent of a comfortable, safe and logical man-wheel interface; Research and evaluation of controls and other devices to accomplish 1 and 2; Training in the process of mobility in the car on various terrains and driving situations to meet the needs of the various states' motor vehicle departments; Recommendations of the type of car and supervision of the installation of proper devices to meet safety requiremnts; Dissemination of information gained from out experiences to interested rehabilitation and safety personnel.
