CABLE MECHANICS FOR MOORED FLOATING SYSTEMS
Mooring lines used to position offshore structures have complex mechanics because of the combined effects of the curvature of the line caused by the self-weight and the steady fluid forces, the elasticity of the line, as well as unsteady fluid forces. Also, the environmental excitation consists of several components with widely different time scales and amplitudes, hence a multiple time and amplitude expansion of the governing equations can be exploited to provide tractable solutions, convenient for analysis and design.
