AN APPROACH FOR FINDING THE OPTIMAL MARITIME TRANSPORT COST
Port parameters are defined according to the types and sizes of ships, and vice versa. Thus, administrative port authorities should bear in mind the continuous increase in rate of ship size, the continuous need to higher handling rates, and the emerging of new types of ships. This will help to attain the maximum value for each of ship size and port cargo handling capacity at minimum total cost. The purpose of this paper is to formulate the mathematical relationship between ship size and port cargo handling capacity in an enequality form. Using this relationship, an approach is presented to outline a domain of values for both ship size and port cargo handling capacity. Within this domain the required point which minimizes the total cost is determined. The approach presented in this paper does not take into consideration port dues.
