GRI PIPELINE SIMULATION FACILITY METAL LOSS DEFECT SET. TOPICAL REPORT, 1990-1994
The objective of this study was to collect and present in photographic detail information on the metal loss defect set made in sample sections of gas transmission pipeline in order to better understand the physical and mechanical characteristics of metal loss defects. The goal in selecting defects was to provide a set of artificial defects that are representative of defects that occur in pipelines under normal conditions, that can be machined into gas pipeline samples without great complexity, that can be used to characterize the capabilities of existing pipeline technology, and that can be used to develop new inspection technology.
