THE USE OF TOTAL LUMINESCENCE CONTOUR SPECTRA FOR OIL IDENTIFICATION
Total luminescence spectroscopy data are presented on 6 topped crude oils. These oils have been studied extensively by a wide variety of techniques including gas-liquid chromatography, atomic absorption spectrophotometry, IR spectroscopy, S and N determinations, mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and UV spectrophotometry. Data presented include both contour graphs and standard excitation--emission graphs on the luminescence of topped crudes dissolved in methyl cyclohexane at room temperature. The effects of solvent choice and concentration are discussed, together with the potential advantage of extending measurements to low temperatures. Total luminescence is evaluated relative to other techniques in terms of usefulness, complexity, cost, and reproducibility.
