STATIC AND DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF A LIGHT VAN BODY USING THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD
An integral construction, light van body was analysed statically and dynamically using the finite element method. Static tests included bending and torsion and used a special rig test to support the van without imposing statically indeterminate constraints. Measured deflections were compared with those predicted by two half-structure idealisations, the second, more refined idealisation giving better agreement. Dynamic tests, using the mama excitation system, over the frequency range 5-60 hz, exposed ten natural frequencies, six of them being symmetric and four of them anti-symmetric. Measured natural frequencies and mode shapes were compared with those predicted by each idealisation and again the second idealisation gave the better results. /Author/ see IRRD no. 219564. /TRRL/
