LINKSPANS FOR STENA'S HSS FERRIES

Two patented semi-submerged linkspans will serve two HSS (High-speed Sea Service) ferries during their time in harbour. This concept allows all the connections of the ferry to land, including mooring, to be made by the linkspan thus eliminating the need of conventional docking arrangements. By means of the linkspan, 375 passenger cars and 50 trailer/buses can be loaded and unloaded during the time a ferry is in harbour which will be 30 minutes maximum. The linkspan, forming a bridge between the ship and the dock, is designed so that one end is mounted hinged to the dockside while the other end rests on a shelf on the ship..
